Ask Linn: Infa-red Systems

Specialized Infra-red systems provide improved listening for TV or other audio components in the home and may even be compatible with infra-red systems used in many theaters.

Personal infra-red systems are available from several different manufacturers and vary in cost.   Infra-red works by “line of sight” transmission from the Infra-red transmitter to the receiver worn by the system user.   Transmission is then limited to the room where the TV or audio system is being used.  Telecoil users can use the neckloop or attach a silhouette which delivers the sound to the processor via the telecoil.

For those who don’t have a telecoil or prefer to connect to the receiver with a patch cable, it also has an audio jack for use with the Nucleus Personal Audio  Cable or headphones.  See the Linn’s Links to various infra-red products for more details.  Read more information about how Infra-red systems work.
