The Cochlear Experience
Troubleshooting ESPrit/22
Each day, before you turn the processor on, check that the cable is properly connected to the processor and not broken or cracked; the sensitivity or volume control level is as recommended by your clinician; and the transmitting coil is in place.
Each night, after you turn the processor off, remove the batteries, and store the speech processor overnight with the drying aid. Moisture or humidity may cause cut-outs or failures.
Follow these steps
If you cannot hear any sound from your processor, take the following steps:
1. Reset the speech processor: switch it OFF for about five seconds, and then ON again. Note: for the ESPritâ„¢ 22, the coil must be on the head when the processor is turned on, otherwise it will shut itself off.
2. Replace ALL of the batteries with fresh, High Power Zinc Air batteries.
3. Remove the battery seals at least one minute before inserting them.
4. Occasionally clean the battery contacts with the cleaning brush.
5. Ask a hearing person to use monitor earphones to check the microphone.
6. Attach and use the lapel microphone. An improvement in sound quality indicates the ESPrit microphone may be faulty or may need drying out with the drying aid. Contact your clinic if drying out does not solve the problem.
7. Use the Signal Check to check the transmitting coil.
8. If the Signal Check lights, up the coil is functioning.
9. If it does not light up, replace the transmitting coil or cable.
10. Try moving away from any electronic device that may be causing interference.
After each step, check if there is any sound. If there is still no sound, contact your clinician, cochlear implant center or your nearest Cochlear office.
