Who's Who: Scott Rinehart
Scott Rinehart truly embodies the advocate role: “I liked volunteering for Cochlear so much that when a job opportunity came up I took it.”
Scott graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Before he joined Cochlear last year he was working at Bruno Independent Living Aids as a mechanical engineer designing stairway elevators.
Scott wore hearing aids for many years, but becuase he has a progressive hearing loss, the hearing aids were no longer providing any benefits. He decided to get a cochlear implant in 2005 – and went with Nucleus® Freedom™. Soon after he received his implant he became a Cochlear Awareness Network Volunteer where he was active in the community talking to others about the benefits he had received with his cochlear implant. It didn’t take long before Scott decided that Cochlear Americas was the place where he could get true career fulfillment.
Scott made the move to Denver in June 2006 and started in his new role as Associate Marketing Manager at Cochlear Americas. He spends his days developing materials and programs to support recipients and still helps to spread awareness about the Nucleus Freedom Cochlear Implant system.
Outside of Cochlear, Scott plays soccer, camps, bikes, reads – but mostly plays soccer. He just recently returned from playing soccer with the U.S. Deaf National Team in England. The team is comprised of players who have a hearing loss greater than 55dB. They played the Deaflympic World Champion United Kingdom Deaf Team and tied them 0-0! The trip to England gave the whole team valuable training and experience in preparation for the 2008 World Deaf Football Championships in Greece.
