Celebration 2007 marks Cochlear's 25th Anniversary
As part of the 2nd Annual Cochlear Celebration, we celebrated Cochlear’s 25th Anniversary with three people who paved the way for the creation, development and the acceptance of cochlear implants as a viable technology to treat hearing loss.
Please meet our special guests:
Professor Graeme Clark
Clark’s journey into the world of cochlear implants began in his childhood, with a desire to communicate with his deaf father. Professor Clark is known around the world as the creator, inventor and developer of the multichannel cochlear implant. Today we know it as the Nucleus cochlear implant system – the most reliable cochlear implant system in the world.
His story is the foundation and spirit of Cochlear that lives on today.
Rod Saunders is the first multi-channel cochlear implant recipient in the world. He received his implant in the late 1970s and through his dedication has helped pave the way for thousands of others.
Jim Patrick
Jim Patrick began work with Professor Clark four years prior to the first implant surgery. Jim then went on to become the first employee of Cochlear and his first task was to make the “wall” sound processor that was used in the lab into a wearable sound processor. Jim has been with Cochlear for 25 years and has continued to lead the ongoing innovations of Nucleus technology.
